The HARMONISE project’s first workshop was held online

The first workshop of the HARMONISE project took place as a virtual event on 22 November 2022. The event was attended by fifty five participants from various organizations indicating the large interest of a diverse group of stakeholders in the project activities and findings.

The discussion that followed the project presentations was mainly focused on the upcoming project activities. There has been a broad agreement on the need to review the existing regulatory framework, incorporate novel concepts and endow it with sufficient capabilities for assuring safety during design and enabling proper regulatory oversight during the operation of innovative facilities. Departing from a prescriptive-based to a performance-based approach in nuclear regulatory regimes needs to be examined under the prism of conformity with the safety objectives of future fission and fusion reactors considering their distinctive properties based on their related “source terms”.

The next workshop is scheduled to take place as a hybrid event in Ljubljana, Slovenia in May 2023.
